If you’re interested in touring our office or scheduling a consultation to discuss porcelain veneers, please contact our Shreveport or Bossier City office

Understanding the Procedure

Porcelain veneers are incredibly thin, tooth-colored shells that cover the front surfaces of the teeth. With a choice between ceramic veneers and resin-based composite veneers, you can benefit from a personalized care plan that will drastically improve your smile. When cared for properly, these enhancements can keep your teeth looking new and beautiful for many years.

During your visit, one of our dentists will administer a local anesthetic and remove a very small amount of your enamel to make room for the veneer. An impression of your teeth will be made and sent off to a dental laboratory, where your porcelain veneers will be created based on detailed instructions given by your doctor. In some cases, temporary veneers may be put in place to maintain the aesthetics of your smile, but your permanent veneers will return to our office in one or two weeks.

During your second appointment, your veneers will be tried on to test their fit and color. Your tooth will be cleaned, polished, and roughened to create a proper bonding surface, and the porcelain veneer will be cemented in place. A follow-up visit may be suggested so that your dentist can examine how your bite and gums are adapting to the veneer. Additionally, you will be given a thorough explanation of how best to care for your porcelain veneers in order to achieve the most satisfactory results.

5 Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

  1. Natural appearance. Porcelain reflects light much like tooth enamel, so they blend in with your smile.
  2. Stain resistance. Porcelain resists coffee, tea and wine stains better than natural teeth.
  3. Versatility. One treatment can address chips, small gaps, uneven edges and discoloration at the same time.
  4. Conservative preparation. Only a thin layer of enamel is usually adjusted, preserving most of your natural tooth.
  5. Long-lasting results. With good care, they can last many years.

Are You a Good Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?

Good candidates have healthy teeth and gums and want to improve the shape, color or alignment of their front teeth. If you grind your teeth, have active decay or have gum disease, we will address those first so your new smile has a healthy foundation.

Some patients get the result they want with teeth whitening or Invisalign instead. Your dentist will walk you through every option so you can choose with confidence.

Caring for Your New Smile

Brush twice a day, floss daily and keep up with regular checkups. Avoid biting hard objects such as ice or pens, and wear a night guard if you clench or grind. For general oral care guidance, see the ADA’s MouthHealthy resources.
